Turritella Agate is admired for its fascinating fossil patterns preserved within rich brown and cream chalcedony. Every stone tells a story of ancient life, making it a favorite among fossil enthusiasts, mineral collectors, and anyone who appreciates Earth's remarkable geological history. Each polished tumble displays naturally preserved fossil shells, ensuring that no two stones are exactly alike.
In traditional crystal practices, Turritella Agate is associated with stability, grounding, and a deep connection to the Earth. It is commonly believed to encourage resilience, promote inner strength, and foster an appreciation for life's journey. Many people enjoy working with Turritella Agate during meditation or intention-setting practices. These metaphysical properties are shared as part of longstanding crystal traditions.
Turritella Agate is a fossil-bearing variety of chalcedony composed primarily of silicon dioxide (SiO₂). Despite its well-known trade name, the fossils preserved within the stone are not true Turritella sea snails. Modern research has identified them as fossilized freshwater snails from the extinct genus Elimia. Millions of years ago, silica-rich groundwater gradually replaced and preserved the shells, creating the beautiful fossil-filled agate seen today. This material is found primarily in Wyoming, where ancient freshwater lake deposits produced these remarkable fossil specimens.
About the Tumbled Stone
Each Turritella Agate has been carefully polished to reveal the intricate fossil patterns while maintaining the natural beauty of the stone. Variations in fossil density, color, and pattern make every piece completely unique.

Care
Turritella Agate has a Mohs hardness of approximately 6.5–7, making it durable enough for regular handling and display. Clean gently with warm water and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals that may dull the polished finish.
Special Feature
One of the most fascinating aspects of Turritella Agate is that each stone contains genuine fossilized freshwater snail shells preserved through the natural process of silicification. Every specimen is a unique combination of ancient life and mineral formation, offering a tangible connection to Earth's distant past.
